HPV reprezintă un grup de peste de virusuri înrudite, dintre care peste 40 sunt răspândite prin contact sexual direct. Acestea sunt clasificate în grupuri cu risc scăzut şi grupuri cu risc înalt, în funcţie de potenţialul oncogenic. Cunoscându-se potenţialul oncogenic al acestor genotipuri, s-au dezvoltat astfel vaccinuri profilactice. Vaccinurile HPV sunt extrem de eficiente în prevenirea infecţiilor şi, totodată, a neoplaziilor determinate de virus, dar nu induc efecte terapeutice împotriva acestora.

Initially, we used several applications of trichloracetic acid and electrodessication with very good results and a free of lesion mean period of two month. In one case the lesions reappeared and we combined several therapeutic modalities: podophyllin, electrodessication, cauterization, with good results. As a conclusion, treating extensive affected areas of HPV infection in children may be challenging and the need of repeated applications might be followed by side effects.
